Terms of Use

These terms are the agreement between you and HomeFlash, Inc. They are written to be read. Section 3 covers what HomeFlash can and cannot tell you, section 4 covers when to stop and call a professional, and section 18 explains how disputes get resolved, including an arbitration clause you can opt out of.

Last updated: 29th September 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

By downloading, opening or using HomeFlash, or by accepting these terms in the app, you agree to these Terms of Use. You also agree to our Privacy Policy, which is part of this agreement. If you do not agree, do not use HomeFlash.

In this document, "HomeFlash", "we", "us" and "our" mean HomeFlash, Inc. "You" means the person using the Services. "Services" means the HomeFlash mobile app for iOS and Android, the website at homeflashpro.com, and anything we make available through them, including diagnoses, follow-up questions, repair steps, chat answers, videos, product links, Find a Pro results and written guides.

2. Who can use HomeFlash

  • You must be 18 or older to accept these terms on your own behalf.
  • If you are 13 to 17, you may use HomeFlash only if a parent or legal guardian reads these terms and agrees to them for you. That adult is responsible for your use, and for supervising any repair you attempt.
  • HomeFlash is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. See the Privacy Policy for what happens if we learn that we have.
  • HomeFlash is offered from the United States and is intended for people in the United States. We make no claim that it is appropriate or available anywhere else. If you use it from another country, you do so on your own initiative and you are responsible for your local law.
  • You must be legally permitted to use it. You confirm that you are not barred from receiving services under United States law, including sanctions and restricted party lists.

3. What HomeFlash is, and what it is not

Read this section before you rely on anything HomeFlash tells you.

HomeFlash looks at a photo you take of something in your home, together with whatever you tell us about it, and returns a likely explanation and general repair guidance. The diagnosis, the follow-up questions, the repair steps and the chat answers are generated by artificial intelligence, using models provided by third parties. The videos, product suggestions and Find a Pro results are found by automated web search. No person at HomeFlash writes or checks your answer before you see it. It is an information tool.

HomeFlash is not a licensed professional

HomeFlash is not a plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, gas fitter, roofer, home inspector, structural engineer, appliance technician or general contractor, and it is not a substitute for one. Using HomeFlash does not create any professional relationship between you and us. Nobody from HomeFlash has inspected your home, tested your equipment, or verified the condition of anything you photograph.

AI output can be wrong

A diagnosis is a best effort from a photograph and a description, not from being in the room. HomeFlash can misread an image, miss a cause that sits outside the frame, state something confidently that is not true, or describe a repair that does not match your specific make and model, the age of your house, or how a previous repair was done. A confidence rating is the system's own estimate, not a guarantee. Treat what it gives you as a starting point to check, not as a finding to act on without thought.

The decision is always yours

  • You decide whether to attempt a repair. Consider your own skill, your tools, your physical ability, and what happens if you are wrong.
  • Check the manufacturer first. Your equipment came with instructions and safety warnings. Those govern, not our general guidance. A repair you make yourself may also void a manufacturer's warranty or affect a home warranty or insurance claim.
  • Check your local rules. Many repairs legally require a permit, an inspection or a licensed professional in your state, county or municipality. HomeFlash does not track your local building and licensing requirements and does not tell you whether a permit is needed. Finding that out is your responsibility.
  • When in doubt, hire a pro. The cost of a service call is almost always smaller than the cost of a repair that goes wrong.

We do not warrant that any diagnosis is accurate, complete or suitable for your situation, and we are not responsible for what you decide to do with it. See sections 17 and 18.

4. Safety, and when to stop

Some conditions are not DIY situations at any skill level. Stop using HomeFlash and get help immediately if you encounter any of the following.

  • You smell gas or suspect a gas leak. Leave the building first. Do not flip switches, unplug anything, or use a phone inside, because any of those can make a spark. From outside, call 911 and your gas utility.
  • There is fire, smoke, or a burning smell. Get out and call 911.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm is sounding. Get everyone outside into fresh air and call 911. Do not go back in to investigate.
  • You see scorching, melted wiring, sparking, or a hot outlet or panel. Do not touch it. Shut off power at the main only if you can do so safely, and call a licensed electrician.
  • There is standing water near an electrical panel, outlet or appliance. Do not enter the water. Water and electricity together can be fatal.
  • Water is actively flooding. Shut off the supply if you know where the valve is and can reach it safely, then call a licensed plumber.
  • Sewage is backing up into the house. This is a health hazard. Call a licensed plumber.
  • Something structural is sagging, cracked or shifting. Stay out from under it and call a structural engineer or your local building department.

HomeFlash is not an emergency service. It cannot dispatch help, it cannot reach your utility company, and it does not monitor anything. In an emergency, call 911.

High-risk work

Some kinds of repair can cause death, serious injury, fire, flooding or major property damage if they go wrong, and in many places the law requires a licensed professional, a permit or an inspection for them. HomeFlash's guidance on this kind of work is general, may not match your equipment or your local code, and is never an instruction to go ahead.

  • Electrical. Before touching anything, turn off the correct breaker and confirm the power is off with a tester. Do not work on your panel, your main service, new circuits, unknown wiring, repeated breaker trips, or anything burnt or melted. Call a licensed electrician.
  • Gas, heating and cooling. Gas furnaces, boilers, water heaters and their venting can cause fire, explosion and carbon monoxide poisoning. Never work on gas lines, burners, heat exchangers, flues, combustion chambers, safety controls or refrigerant lines unless you are trained and licensed to.
  • Plumbing and water. Know where the fixture shut-off and the main shut-off are before you loosen anything. Main supply lines, sewer lines, hidden leaks in walls or ceilings, and anything you cannot quickly control belong to a licensed plumber. Water damage can lead to mold that is not visible for weeks.
  • Structural work. Do not cut, remove or modify walls, joists, beams, posts, stairs, decks or foundations based on HomeFlash. Call a licensed contractor, a structural engineer or your building department.
  • Roofs, ladders and heights. Falls are one of the most common causes of serious injury in home repair. Do not work on a roof or at height without proper equipment and a second person present.
  • Lead paint and asbestos. Homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint, and older homes may contain asbestos in insulation, flooring, ceilings and pipe wrap. Sanding, cutting or demolishing these materials can release toxic dust. Have them tested and handled by a qualified professional.

What the app does, and does not do, for your safety

HomeFlash checks what you describe for signs of an emergency and may withhold repair steps and tell you to get help, and it asks you to acknowledge a warning before showing guidance for higher-risk work. These features are there to help, not to protect you. They can miss a hazard, they cannot see what is outside the photo, and the fact that HomeFlash showed you repair steps does not mean a repair is safe for you to do. Acknowledging a warning is your confirmation that you have read it and accept the risk of going ahead.

If you do attempt a repair, shut off power, gas or water at the source first, wear appropriate protective equipment, and use tools rated for the job. Never work on a circuit you cannot confirm is de-energized.

5. No account: your installation and your history

HomeFlash does not use accounts. The app creates a random installation ID on your phone, and your history is tied to it, as the Privacy Policy explains. That has consequences you should know about.

  • Your history lives on that phone. If you delete the app, reset your phone or move to a new one, your history cannot be recovered, by you or by us.
  • Protect your phone. Anyone who can unlock your phone can see your HomeFlash history. You are responsible for what happens through your installation.
  • Keep your own copies. We are not obliged to store your content or to keep a backup of it. Save anything you want to keep, such as a repair step or a product you need, somewhere else as well.

We may limit, suspend or block an installation that is being used in breach of these terms, that poses a security or legal risk, or that is abusing the Services.

6. Photos and other content you submit

"User Content" means anything you send us: photos, text descriptions, make and model details, answers to follow-up questions, chat messages, feedback, reports, Find a Pro requests, support messages, and anything you enter on the contractor interest form.

You keep what you own

You keep all ownership rights in your User Content. We do not claim it.

The permission you give us

You grant HomeFlash a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable license to host, store, copy, reformat, process, transmit and display your User Content, and to create derived and de-identified data from it, in order to operate the Services, respond to you, keep the Services safe, and improve how well they work. This includes sending it to the service providers named in our Privacy Policy, such as our AI providers, to produce your answer. We will only use your content to train AI models as the Privacy Policy allows. This license lasts as long as we hold the content, and it ends for a given item when that item is deleted, except that aggregated and de-identified data already derived from it, and safety reports kept as described in the Privacy Policy, may be retained.

What you are promising us

  • You have the right to send it. You own the content or you have permission to submit it.
  • It does not infringe anyone. It does not violate any copyright, trademark, privacy right or other right.
  • You are allowed to photograph the property. It is yours, or the owner has authorized you.
  • You have permission from anyone recognizable in it. Including tenants, guests and workers.
  • The contact details are yours. The email address or phone number you give in Find a Pro, or on the contractor form, belongs to you or you are authorized to use it.

A practical request

Frame the photo on the equipment. Try not to capture people, mail, screens, documents, or anything else you would not want stored on our systems or sent to our AI providers. We take care with what you send us, and the surest way to keep something private is not to photograph it.

We may remove User Content that breaches these terms or the law.

7. Find a Pro and independent contractors

Find a Pro sends the ZIP code and description you give it to our search provider, Perplexity, to look for local businesses that may be able to help, and shows you what it finds so that you can contact them yourself. We do not send your contact details, photos or diagnosis to any business shown.

  • They are independent businesses. Contractors are not our employees, agents, subcontractors or partners. We do not perform repairs and we do not supervise anyone who does.
  • We do not guarantee them. We make no promise about any contractor's licensing, insurance, pricing, availability, punctuality, workmanship or conduct.
  • Verify before you hire. Confirm the license through your state licensing board, ask for a certificate of insurance, check references, and get the scope and price in writing.
  • The contract is between you and them. Any agreement for work, and any dispute about that work, payment, damage, injury or warranty, is between you and the contractor. HomeFlash is not a party to it.
  • Paid placement. Businesses do not pay to appear in Find a Pro today. If that changes, we will clearly label any paid or sponsored result.

8. The contractor interest form

If you are a contractor and submit the form on our website, you are asking to be considered for a program we are still building. It is not an offer from us, not an acceptance, and not a promise of leads, placement, territory, exclusivity or inclusion. If we invite you into the program, a separate written agreement will govern it. You confirm that what you tell us, including about your license and insurance, is true.

HomeFlash suggests repair videos and parts, tools and materials, and links to them on YouTube, Amazon, The Home Depot and Lowe's. These suggestions are found automatically. A product may not fit your equipment, may be the wrong part, or may have changed since the link was made. Check compatibility with your make and model, and the manufacturer's instructions, before you buy or install anything.

As an Amazon Associate, HomeFlash earns from qualifying purchases. That means if you buy something on Amazon after tapping one of our links, Amazon may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. It does not affect which products or videos HomeFlash shows you. We do not currently earn from The Home Depot or Lowe's links.

The retailer, not HomeFlash, is the seller. Price, availability, delivery, returns, warranties and product safety are between you and the retailer and the manufacturer. Videos are made by third parties, not by us, and we are not responsible for their accuracy or safety.

10. Fees and usage limits

HomeFlash is free to download and free to use today. To keep it that way and to prevent abuse, the Services have usage limits, such as a number of diagnoses per day and per month. The app tells you when you have reached one. We may change the limits at any time.

We may introduce paid features or subscriptions in future. If we do, we will make the price and what it covers clear before you are charged, and we will not charge you for something you have not agreed to. Any purchase you make through the App Store or Google Play will be processed by Apple or Google, and billing, renewal, cancellation and refunds will follow that store's rules.

Your mobile carrier's message and data rates apply to your use of the app. We do not reimburse them.

11. If you installed the app from the App Store or Google Play

These terms apply in addition to the store's own terms, and the following is required by Apple. References to Apple apply equally to Google where Google's terms require it.

  • This agreement is with us, not the store. These terms are between you and HomeFlash, Inc. only. Apple and Google are not parties to them.
  • The store does not support the app. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for HomeFlash.
  • Warranty refunds. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation of any kind.
  • Claims are ours to answer. We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for addressing any claim about the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet a legal requirement, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law.
  • Third-party intellectual property claims. We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for investigating and resolving any claim that the app infringes someone's intellectual property.
  • Apple can enforce these terms. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and have the right to enforce them against you.
  • You meet the store's own rules. You confirm you are complying with the applicable usage rules of the store you installed from.

12. Things you agree not to do

When using HomeFlash, do not:

  • Use it for any unlawful purpose, or to help anyone else break the law.
  • Use it to plan or carry out anything intended to harm a person or damage property, including tampering with someone else's utilities, equipment or safety devices.
  • Try to get around its safety features, for example by rewording a description to avoid an emergency warning, or instruct the AI to ignore its rules.
  • Misrepresent who you are, or enter someone else's email address or phone number.
  • Scrape, crawl, harvest or otherwise collect data from the Services by automated means.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any part of the Services, except to the extent that restriction is unenforceable under applicable law.
  • Work around usage limits, access controls, or any measure we use to protect the Services, including by creating new installations to avoid a limit.
  • Upload malware, or anything designed to damage or interfere with the Services or other users.
  • Use our output, or content you obtain from the Services, to build or train a competing product, model or dataset.
  • Resell, sublicense or commercially redistribute diagnoses or guides without our written permission.
  • Submit content that is illegal, sexual, infringing, harassing, or that contains another person's private information you have no right to share.
  • Use Find a Pro to harass, spam or mislead a business.
  • Present a HomeFlash diagnosis to anyone as a professional inspection, a code compliance opinion, a certified assessment, or evidence in an insurance claim or a sale of property.

13. Our intellectual property

The Services, including the software, the written guides, the interface, the graphics and the HomeFlash name and logo, belong to us or to our licensors and are protected by United States and international intellectual property law.

We give you a personal, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app and read the guides for your own non-commercial purposes. Nothing else is granted. Do not use our name, logo or branding without our written permission.

14. Feedback and reports

If guidance looks wrong, incomplete or unsafe, please use the report button next to it in the app. Reports help us find and fix problems, but we cannot promise to respond to each one individually, and making a report does not make us responsible for the guidance.

If you send us an idea, a suggestion, a rating, a report or a bug report, we may use it without restriction and without owing you anything. We treat feedback as non-confidential. Do not send us anything you want kept secret or expect to be paid for.

15. Third-party sites and content

The Services link to other sites and apps and sometimes name specific parts, tools, brands or businesses. Those references are for your convenience and are not endorsements. We do not control third-party sites, we are not responsible for their content, their products, their services or their privacy practices, and prices and availability change without notice.

If you believe something on HomeFlash infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with "DMCA" in the subject line, or write to us at the address in section 25, and include: your contact details; identification of the work you say is infringed; identification of the material you want removed and where to find it; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature.

We will respond to valid notices and, where appropriate, remove the material. If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake, you can send a counter notice to the same address. We block repeat infringers from the Services.

17. Disclaimers

The Services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, HomeFlash disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.

We do not warrant that any diagnosis, repair guidance, chat answer, video, product suggestion or Find a Pro result is accurate, complete, current, safe or suitable for your situation, that the Services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error free, or that any defect will be corrected.

Some states do not allow the exclusion of certain implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. In that case, those warranties are limited to the shortest period the law allows.

18. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HomeFlash and its owners, officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, licensors and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, lost goodwill, property damage, personal injury, or the cost of substitute services or repairs, arising out of or relating to your use of the Services, your reliance on any diagnosis, guidance, video or product suggestion, any repair you attempt, or anything done or not done by a contractor, retailer or other third party you found through the Services, whether the claim is based in contract, tort, strict liability or anything else, and even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to the Services is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred United States dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, or anything else that cannot be limited under applicable law. Some states do not allow the limitation or exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You and we agree that these limits are a fundamental part of the bargain between us, and that without them HomeFlash could not be offered free of charge.

19. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless HomeFlash, Inc. and its owners, officers, directors, employees, agents and affiliates from any claim, loss, liability, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your use of the Services, your User Content, your breach of these terms or of any law, or any repair work you perform or arrange as a result of using HomeFlash, including any claim by a tenant, guest, neighbour, worker or later owner of the property.

20. Disputes, arbitration, and class action waiver

This section affects your legal rights. Please read it carefully. It requires most disputes to go to individual arbitration instead of court, and it waives your right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action. You can opt out within 30 days and keep using HomeFlash.

Talk to us first

Before starting a formal proceeding, email [email protected] with a description of the problem and what you would like us to do about it. Give us 60 days to resolve it. Most things get sorted here, and this step is a condition of starting arbitration or a small claims case.

Binding individual arbitration

If we cannot resolve it informally, you and HomeFlash agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or the Services will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court. The arbitrator's decision is final and may be entered as a judgment in any court with jurisdiction. The Federal Arbitration Act governs the interpretation and enforcement of this section.

The arbitration will take place in the county where you live, or at another location you and we agree on, or by telephone or video where the AAA rules allow it. You will not have to travel across the country to be heard.

What is not covered

  • Small claims court. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies there.
  • Intellectual property. Either of us may go to court for an injunction to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property.

No class actions

You and HomeFlash agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity. Neither of us may bring a class, collective, consolidated or representative action, and the arbitrator has no authority to preside over one or to award relief to anyone who is not a party. If this paragraph is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim, and only that claim, will be heard in court, and the rest of this section still applies to everything else.

How to opt out

You can decline arbitration. Email [email protected] with "Arbitration opt-out" in the subject line, along with your name and an email address we can reach you at, within 30 days of the date you first accepted these terms. That is all it takes. Opting out affects nothing else in this agreement, and we will not treat you differently for doing it.

21. Governing law and where disputes go

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.

For any dispute that is not subject to arbitration under section 20, you and HomeFlash agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state courts located in Ocean County, New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and each of us consents to personal jurisdiction there.

22. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, and the date at the top will change when we do. If a change is material, we will give reasonable advance notice in the app or on this website at least seven days before it takes effect, unless a change is required sooner by law, and the app will ask you to accept the new terms before you continue.

Continuing to use HomeFlash after a change takes effect means you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Services and delete the app. A change to section 20 does not apply to a dispute we already knew about before the change.

23. Ending this agreement

You can stop at any time. To remove your data, use Permanently delete account on the Profile screen before you delete the app, as the Privacy Policy explains. Deleting the app on its own does not delete what is stored on our servers.

We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms, if your use creates legal or security risk, or if we discontinue the Services. Where we can give notice, we will.

Sections that are meant to outlast the agreement do: the content license in section 6 to the extent described there, and sections 12 through 21 and 24.

  • Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and HomeFlash about the Services, and they replace anything said before, including any earlier HouseDoc or HouseDoctor terms.
  • Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce something right away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment. We may assign these terms, for example in a merger or sale of the business. You may not assign them without our written consent.
  • No other beneficiaries. Nobody other than you and us has rights under these terms, except Apple and Google as described in section 11.
  • Events beyond our control. We are not liable for a failure to perform caused by something outside our reasonable control, including outages at our AI or hosting providers, natural disasters and acts of government.
  • Notices. Because the app has no accounts, we will give you notices in the app or on this website. You can reach us at the addresses below.
  • Headings. Section headings are there to help you find things and do not change the meaning of what follows them.
